What is Organic?
Organic refers to the way food is grown and processed. It is an ecological system that relies on healthy rich soil to produce plants that resist pests and diseases. Organic farming prohibits the use of harmful and persistent chemicals in favour of cutting edge practices that work with nature, instead of against it, such as crop rotation, cover crop planting, beneficial insect release, and composting. The Organic Difference Organic produce meet stringent standards. Organically grown means that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent harmful chemical inputs. In fact, studies have shown that fresh organic produce contains on average 50% more vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants and other micronutrients than intensively farmed produce. Science says that it's good for you.

Organic production reduces health risks. Organic produce is not covered in a cocktail of poisonous chemicals. Many approved pesticides currently used were registered long before extensive research were carried out and linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases. The hazards for human health include increased risk of cancer, reproductive problems, and neurological damage. It was studied and concluded that organic food was far safer and better for health than non- organic food. Organic produce tastes better. Well balanced soils produce strong, healthy plants that become nourishing food for people and animals, especially children. Fruit and vegetables are full of juice and flavor. Not only do you get the full health benefits through organic food, it tastes simply delicious!

Why Organic?
Organic products promote and enhance biodiversity, maintain the natural habitats like soil, microorganisms, insects, plants etc., in the environment, thereby maintaining the ecological harmony. The environment is protected from the harmful effects of pollution and residue from chemicals and pesticides. Organic cultivation employs natural methods like insect predator barriers to control pests and diseases and control weed growth by use of crop rotation, tillage, hand weeding, cover crops and mulches. Conservation of resource soil and water, prevents soil erosion by contouring and bunding, so that leaching of nutrient is reduced. Soil fertility is maintained by applying of crop residues and livestock manures. Food safety, nutrition and health, saves the farm workers health from hazardous effects of chemicals. Experts believe that children are especially susceptible to the effects of pesticide exposure because they consume more fruits and vegetables per pound of body weight than adults and because their rapidly developing physiology leaves them more vulnerable to the effects of pesticides than an already physically mature adult. Their immature immune reproductive and endocrine system are not fully developed and are particularly sensitive to toxins in their diets. Their developing tissue barriers are more permeable to toxins, and they are less efficient at excreting them. Give our kids a good head start in life. Make the switch today!

Organic foods are grown and processed without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chemical based fertilizers, genetically modified organisms (GMO's), artificial ingredients, preservatives, or irradiation, growth hormones and antibiotics. "Certified Organic " ensures that the products labelled organic have been grown and processed in accordance with the strict regulations and are certified by a certifying agency under the Organic Foods Production Act.
